Up from the Grave She AROSE!!!

I miss writing stuff. I hereby rededicate this blog to its' original purpose--letting me stretch my mental legs a bit. I need to remember what it's like to be an individual. Valued for more than the fact that I know how to open the sippy cup and my hand makes a sturdy place to cling to when going down the porch step. But oh the value in being trusted like that! Mom, I'm so sorry I ever asked you if you liked being a mom. It didn't look like fun to my immature eyes. I mean, where's the fun in diapers and "He started it!" and "Please don't hug me, my friends can see you..." I never knew how much your heart must have been tangled up in ours. I love you, mom. Thanks for driving me to school and glaring at all the bullies. They were really scared of you.

in the words of e. e. cummings:

" here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

June: one very good reason to be a teacher

I am so glad that school is out. I miss having a life. My social life has been on a heart/lung machine for the past few months. I miss you guys! I could blither on, but suffice it to say--I'm back.

My Good Intentions Were Buried Today

It is snowing pretty heavily here. In the middle of a cleaning binge on this snowday, I came across a big bag of sunflower seeds that Luke forgot he had. I looked outside and thought about the poor little birdies outside (we have cardinals in a tree by our "compost pile") and so I opened the back door and scattered the seeds on the porch and backyard.

20 minutes later, the seeds are gone, covered by another 2 inches of snow.

Another humbling moment where my intelligence has failed me and left me feeling like the rest of you pitiful saps.

a Few Haiku for 13 year old girls

Sometimes I want to scream
But then I remember, you're so young
Turning away, I sigh.

Braces and Giggles
She's taller than her boyfriends
This week's and last week's.

Curious tadpole
you wrestle with yourself to
become a woman.

Cannot speak like me.
You speak boycrazy or just
plain crazy. I smile.

Live Long and Prosper

I thought I was being all original and brainy! I was reading in Deuteronomy today and read this verse: "You, your children, and your grandchildren must respect the Lord your God as long as you live. Obey all his rules and commands I give you so that you will live a long time...Then all will go well for you, and you will become a great nation in a fertile land, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you."

I, being a Trekkie, immediately thought to myself, "Something sounds very familiar in those verses..." So I googled it. And viola!--

"An abbreviated version of a traditional Jewish religious blessing. The phrase, accompanied by a hand gesture, came to a wider public in the Star Trek TV series. It was used there by the character Mr. Spock (actor Leonard Nimoy, himself Jewish) as the greeting of the Vulcan people." --Taken from "Phrase Finder."

What a cool idea for a t-shirt.

Teaching

Teaching is a joy. I have found what I was made for and I am happy. I love going to work. I am not kidding. I am not being sarcastic. Don't be jealous, just stop doing what you hate to do and do what you love. Except paying bills. As long as the bills keep coming, you gotta keep paying them--even if you hate it. Of course, if you don't mind, no heat, electricity, water, gas, etc. then by all means...

Did I mention I love teaching?
