Live Long and Prosper

I thought I was being all original and brainy! I was reading in Deuteronomy today and read this verse: "You, your children, and your grandchildren must respect the Lord your God as long as you live. Obey all his rules and commands I give you so that you will live a long time...Then all will go well for you, and you will become a great nation in a fertile land, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has promised you."

I, being a Trekkie, immediately thought to myself, "Something sounds very familiar in those verses..." So I googled it. And viola!--

"An abbreviated version of a traditional Jewish religious blessing. The phrase, accompanied by a hand gesture, came to a wider public in the Star Trek TV series. It was used there by the character Mr. Spock (actor Leonard Nimoy, himself Jewish) as the greeting of the Vulcan people." --Taken from "Phrase Finder."

What a cool idea for a t-shirt.
